If one of the first things that drops into your inbox in the morning is an email entitled – Organic Hand Wash Review.
In our case it not only peaks our interest but as you read through it, it brings a big smile to our face.
When one of the things that the review asks you to do is “Check Out the ‘Free From list‘, as it’s very impressive”….
Then what are you waiting for….
O.K, if you are wondering what a ‘Free From List’ is? then in a nutshell it is a list of the Raw Materials / Ingredients that are NOT used by a company in their products. In this case PAIRFUM London
When a reviewer takes not only the time to try the products, but to investigate what they contain before using them..
Then it really should act as a reminder to all of us to check what our skin care or toiletries contain, just having the terms ‘Organic’, ‘Natural’ , ‘Essential Oils’ or ‘Best’ on the label may not be enough.
Just to give you an idea of what the PAIRFUM Organic Hand and Body washes ‘DO NOT’ contain, below is just a few from the list:
NO – parabens, e.g. Methyl, Propyl, Butyl and Ethyl Paraben NO – SLS, SLA NO – GMO ingredients, NO – animal derived ingredients NO – animal testing, NO – phthalates, NO – sulphate, NO – nitro musks or polycyclic musks, NO – alkyl phenol ethoxylate solubilizers, NO – mineral oils and none of the following petroleum derived ingredients: petrolatum, petroleum jelly, petroleum distillates, etc.
YES ! it is just as I mentioned above only a few of the ingredients that are NOT in the PAIRFUM London products….
We know that some of the above have been in the news for quiet a few years, as ‘NO-no’s’ when it comes to our HEALTH.
One example you may not have heard of such as ‘alkyl phenol ethoxylate solubilizers’, as they may not roll of the tongue easily but are described as endocrine disrupters or (EDCs).
Does it really matter if our endocrine system is disrupted?
What does our endocrine system do?
Well our endocrine system is the collection of glands that produce hormones that regulate metabolism, growth and development, tissue function, sexual function, reproduction, sleep, and mood, among other things…. so basically our entire life
So you tell us! is that something that you want to disrupt or disturb?
If not! then checking the ingredients list is of the upmost importance, and this is just one of the items on the ‘Free From List’ by PAIRFUM London. So if you would like to find out more or care about what you are putting on your skin, or the skin of your children

When it comes to a difference of opinion recently in the office, we have taken to referring to it as a Yanny or Laurel Moment.
So what is it?
It does not really matter whether it is a discussion about Football, Food, TV or your all time favourite perfume note. What is more important in a Yanny or Laurel Moment, is that everyone is right and at the same time everyone is wrong.
With the weekend to look forward to and the sun shining, having a Yanny or Laurel moment when planning what to do is not so bad.
Remember you have a 50 : 50 chance of being right – so lets just leave it at that.
However the one thing that everyone agrees upon is the need to protect your skin from the Sun.
Sunscreens with an SPF of 15 or higher should always be used, it is very important to protect your skin against UVB.
Another very important thing to remember is to moisturise your skin, especially after being out in the Sun for a period of time.
The PAIRFUM London Organic Washes and Prebiotic & Organic Body Lotions, deeply moisturises & hydrates skin with pure, organic oils. They also strengthen the micro-flora of your skin with prebiotics so that it can defend itself.

Have you heard the one about Biodegradable Plastic from Tree Glue?
Well ‘Good News’ about tackling the global problem of plastic waste appears to be like buses…
You wait forever then two or three of them turn-up at once..
An article in the Telegraph today states that biodegradable plastic made from ‘tree glue’ could be on shelves within five years…
This is not something that has just happened overnight researchers at the University of Warwick have found that a natural glue called lignin, which holds cellulose fibres together, stiffening plant stems, can be turned into a strong, moldable plastic.
The Warwick’s teams discovery of this byproduct of the paper making process, looks to be another major step forward in tackling one of the greatest environmental challenges facing the world today.
Professor Tim Bugg at Warwick University has developed a way to use genetically modified bacteria to turn the glue into useful chemicals.
His discovery of a bacteria called ‘Rhodococcus jostii’, which lives in the soil and feeds on the glue, can be genetically altered so that it turns lignin into high yields of biodegradable plastic.
Prof Bugg has been working on his research for 40 years…..
YES – you read that correctly – FORTY YEARS
During a meeting in London he said: “I have been working on lignin for 40 years and when I started people said ‘you’re wasting your time’ but now people are thinking this is possible. Still difficult but it is possible.”
Difficult but possible – it is so heartening to hear such ‘Positive News’ in a time when everything seem to be ‘Bad News’.
When currently, around 300 million tonnes of plastic is discarded each year, with only about 10 per cent of it being recycled. It is people like Proffesor Bugg and his research team that the government should be funding and encouraging.
It is time we all #RethinkPlastic – where what we do is part of the ‘Solution’ and not the ‘Problem’
We here at PAIRFUM, have always tried to find ways to work along side and incorporate Nature into all of our products and packaging. It is why all our packaging is ‘Renewable & Home Compostable’ to discover why PAIRFUM’s is ‘ Luxury with a Conscience’ click here
Good News, a solution has been found for our Oceans Drowning in Plastic.
It is estimated that over 8 million tonne of plastic is dumped into our seas every year.
It is also believed that at this rate by 2050, there will be more plastic in the sea than fish.
SO!
Unless you fancy having ‘Plastic & Chips’ as a treat from your local eatery. Then something has to be done!
But what?
Well, it may just be that a student from Reed College in Oregon, called ‘Morgan Vague’, has come up with a possible solution.
Morgan, who is studying biology at Reed, started to look for a solution to one of the World’s most urgent environmental problems:
the Disposal of Plastic Waste.
Currently, around 300 million tonnes of plastic is discarded each year, with only about 10 per cent of it being recycled.
You may be wondering what did Morgan come up with? that could solve this floating menace?
It would appear, that while studying our wonderful friends, the ‘Bacteria’, she discovered breeding bacteria capable of digesting or eating plastic and potentially breaking it down into harmless by-products.
Thank you Mother Nature (yet again), for coming to our rescue and for trying to help save us from ourselves.
While conducting the research for her senior thesis at Reed Ms Morgan a biology major, began searching for microbes adapted to degrade plastic in the soil and water around refineries in her hometown of Houston.
As you do….
What she discovered is amazing:
Morgan uncovered a fat-digesting enzyme potentially capable of breaking down plastic and making it palatable for the bacteria.
Plastic eating Microbes – IS THIS THE ANSWER?
She believes, that if the process was sped up, it could play a very important role in finding a solution to the planet’s plastic problem.
Just before you run off to protect your computers, cars and TVs from this plastic gobbling wonder,
Remember these are naturally occurring bacteria that are out there in the environment.
The team of scientists behind the research are just trying to isolate bacteria and then treat the plastic in a way that bacteria can naturally digest it.
The study is still in it’s infancy and has a long way to go, but at least it is going in the right direction.
We here at PAIRFUM, have always tried to find ways to work along side and incorporate Nature in to all of our products and packaging, right from inception.
It is why one of our by-lines has always been….

Does how we start each day affect our mood? is it true that how starting the Day with Positive thoughts can alter the outcome.
When we sit down to have a quite moment or seek time for ourselves, are we really having that, much sought after ‘relaxing, de-stressing’ ‘Me-time’, or do we simply spend the time talking to ourselves?
If we start the day by talking to ourselves, so what?
We all have times during the day (or night), when we have very deep and maybe not so meaningful conversations with ourselves.
Who cares! if we have private internal conversations with ‘Us’, and why does it matter so much!!
Well it does matter, and here is the reason why…
Research has shown that ‘Positive’ thinking helps to manage stress, and can even improve your health.
There is no problem with having an in-depth chat with our inner selves..
Or is there?
Well the answer to that is ‘YES’ and ‘NO’
‘YES’ there is a problem if – that chat is the all consuming practice of NEGATIVE SELF-TALK….
‘NO’ if the internal monologue is POSITIVE…
So, when we want to have a little ‘Natter’ with the person who appears to live inside our head, how do you make sure it’s Positive?
How we begin each day affects our mood, energy level and productivity for the rest of the day..
So by starting your day with ‘Positive’ thoughts you can alter the outcome.
HERE – are someways to make sure that you always benefit from your internal ‘Head to Heart’ or Heart to Head’ self-talk.
1.
STOP – constantly hitting that ‘Snooze’ button, which sleep researches have warned is not good for your ‘Heart’… as you are literally repeatedly inflicting a “cardiovascular assault” on the body and your nervous system.
2.
START- your day by spending the time from when you first wake-up, to when you get out of bed, thinking of or focusing on ‘ONE’ thing that you are looking forward to accomplishing or doing that day.
DOING – this simple ( but not always easy task ), helps you avoid the feeling of panic or dread when you suddenly remember – all the things you must not forget to do today, all the things you have to achieve, and last but not least all things that might go wrong.. and all of this negativity will flood your consciousness in just a matter of minutes..
Don’t let it…
3.
ONCE- you have calmed and quietened your mind, slowly open your eyes, gently stretch and get ready to go into your day with a clear and positive outlook.
As – Lao Tzu said “Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habit. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.”
4.
TAKE – time to refresh and reinvigorate your mind & body by taking a mood boosting morning shower. We would recommend using one of the PAIRFUM London ‘Organic Body Wash & Shower Oil’s’, our ‘SPA or Pink Grapefruit’ is a perfect start to any day.You can find further information here about all the PAIRFUM London Organic Skin Care products.
5.
So, from now on when that alarm bell rings in the morning, the only #PAUSE #Button you should reach for is the one to #STOP #NEGATIVE #THOUGHTS, and when you are next having a conversation with yourself, please ‘REMEMBER’ just how ‘NICE’ a ‘PERSON’ you are talking to..
You may be wondering,
what are these 10 Amazing Things About Your Nose, that will change how you think about Yourself?
So, you don’t think you are Amazing, you are nothing special, right?
Wrong, … apart from the fact of course that you are a walking, talking, seeing, hearing smelling, feeling, loving wonder of Nature.
Now, that in it’s own right is not bad for a start but, …
It gets better!
Here are the 10 Amazing Things About Your Nose:
1.
Did you know that that every 28 days you grow a ‘ A new nose’.
Well, … not technically speaking of course, but you do renew your scent cells so that your olfactory sense is as ‘fit as a fiddle’ and looking forward to the month ahead.
2.
Your sense of smell does not wait around, it is fully functioning and ready to go,
… before your are even born.
3.
We can remember an aroma or smell with more accuracy after a year, than with visual recall.
A study showed that you can remember smells with 65% accuracy after a year, while visual recall is about 50% after only three months.
4.
The human nose can detect one trillion distinct scents.
Yes! you read that correctly – One Trillion …
5.
Our sense of smell is completely unique from our other senses, in that it is the only sense that travels directly to the forebrain without going to the thalamus.
In other words, …
Your brain wants the information received by your nose FAST.
This is a matter of survival.
So,… no time wasting here.
6.
Our nostrils are ‘Ipsilateral’.
“What does this mean?”, you may ask.
It means, ‘on or affecting the same side of the body.
Each nostril is directed onto a separate side of the brain, where the right nostril corresponds to the right side of the brain and the left nostril corresponding to the left side of the brain.
Where normally the ‘Right’ side of the brain controls the ‘Left’ side of the body and vice versa, well lets just say “your nose it likes to be different”…
7.
Apologies Gentlemen, … but another thing that Women are better at:
Women have a better sense of smell.
One reason for this may be that women have a more developed orbital prefrontal region of the brain.
Or, it may also have evolved to help Women choose the best possible mate.
So you see Gentlemen, it is not all bad news, it insures they pick You, that special someone!
8.
It is estimated that 70% of taste is actually based on olfactory sensations.
Just consider how food loses its flavour when we have a cold.
So the next time you are enjoying a glass of your favourite tipple or a wonderful meal, then you ‘Nose’ who to thank for it.
9.
If you are impressed that Formula One race cars can go from 0-60 in as fast as 1.6 seconds,…
then get in the back seat F1, as the entire procedure of olfactory processing takes a good 200 milliseconds!
10.
Last but by no means least, in this era of ‘Fake News’, your nose is impossible to deceive.
Peter Mombaerts, a Director at the Max Planck Institute of Biophysics, states: “olfaction is the most elementary and fleeting of all senses, an ideal detector of body and environmental chemistry. The sense of smell is almost impossible to mislead”.
So, … the ‘Nose knows, you know’!
Now that you have learned these 10 amazing things about you nose,
You will never again be able to honestly say: “There is nothing special about me”.
It is for that very reason that we, here at PAIRFUM London, create Natural Perfumes and Products that compliment and enhances that ‘Amazing, Wonderful You’.

A recent study carried out by RUB ( Ruhr-Universität Bochum ) revealed how the Emotions of others influence our olfactory sense, it shows how the facial expression of others influences how positively or negatively we perceive an odour. It would appear that the face and body language of those around us when smelling a scent will effect how we perceive it.
The study examined how the processing of visual information effected the olfactory system in humans. Visual stimuli received by the piriform cortex a region of the brain mainly known as part of the primary olfactory cortex, produced predictive templates that helped or facilitate olfactory processing. In other words the region of the brain responsible for detecting odours has kindly provided us with a map or an olfactory coordinates reference.
The researchers used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to study if this region of the olfactory system, is also capable of preprocessing emotional visual information. Differing odours were used in conjunction with primed images of facial expressions, for example happy, sad, disgusted along side scents that were neutral, unpleasant or pleasant.
Their findings are the first to demonstrate that the piriform cortex preprocesses emotional visual information prior to any olfactory stimulation, and that the emotional connotation of this preprocessing is subsequently transferred and integrated into an extended olfactory network for olfactory processing.
In a nut shell their findings show that when we see someone else make a face because of a bad smell, then we are highly lightly to react in the same way. Our inherited olfactory DNA has taught us that if one of our troop reacts or dislikes an odour, then it may be dangerous or harmful for us, so being forewarned we are forearmed. It could be that the development of the interaction between our olfactory and visual information contributes to an effective perception of scents, that ultimately enhances our chance of survival.
Odour identification or recognition is greatly improved by additional verbal and or visual information, for example showing someone a picture of an orange or a lemon when an orange or lemon scent is presented. Seeing an image or reading a scent description also activates the primary olfactory cortex, without the subject ever coming into physical contact with an object.
In summation, the research scientists discovered as expected that the analysis of the whole brain revealed a consistent and specific activation pattern throughout the extended olfactory network. What was also very interesting was the discovery that the observable emotions expressed on the faces of others change the processing of pleasant odours, while unpleasant odours were unaffected.
The results of this study clearly demonstrate that emotional visual information is preprocessed in the human piriform cortex prior to any physical contact or pairing with an odour.
This is of specific interest as visual stimuli have not been directly associated with any olfactory stimuli. The behavioural data reveals that valence (relating to or denoting electrons involved in or available for chemical bond formation) perception of odours is shifted towards the emotional connotation of the facial expression.
The findings from this research throw further light on just how complex and utterly amazing our Olfactory sense is, and how important it is to our well-being. It is also proof of how we as individuals influence others and the world around us.
